THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIAN WEDDING SPEECHES

TOP TIPS FOR YOUR WEDDING SPEECHES

WHO TALKS FIRST FOR WEDDING SPEECHES?

MAID OF HONOUR WEDDING SPEECHES

I believe for every special occasion, a speech should be made in honour of it! Wedding speeches are no exception.

We have put together a list to make it easy for you, although the order of your wedding speeches can be whatever you decide.

After all, it is your wedding day!

Formalities First: The MC or host of the wedding will give general housekeeping rules and emergency exits directives.

The MC will also set into place what will be happening next so guests are aware of the proceedings.

Your wedding day is a special occasion, traditions and formalities include speeches from parents and friends and can even include video speeches from those who cannot attend. A live stream of your wedding means everyone can be involved even when far away.

The Traditional Australian Wedding is Generally in this order:

1 . Father of the Bride will speak first :

  • Thank the guests for coming to participate in this special day
  • Acknowledge and thank those who contributed to the wedding
  • Compliment the bride and welcome her new husband into the family
  • Finish the speech with a toast to the bride and groom

2 . Father of the Groom will speak second:

  • Thank the guests for coming to participate in this special day
  • Acknowledge and thank those who contributed to the wedding
  • Compliment the Groom and welcome his new wife into the family
  • Finish the speech with a toast to the bride and groom

3 . Maid of Honour speech is third: The chief bridesmaid or maid of honour will also give a speech to commemorate her best friend’s matrimony. Share some embarrassing stories to lighten the feeling in the room and surprise the bride. She will also read any messages from friends who may not be present.

  • Thank the Bride
  • Compliment the groomsmen
  • Propose a toast

4. Best Man’s speech is forth: The best man speaks to represent the bridal party and the friendship between himself and the groom. Sharing stories from childhood or recent times can be sentimental or fun.

  • Thank and compliment the bridesmaids
  • Compliment the bridal couple and share stories of the groom
  • End his speech by thanking and toasting the bride and groom

5. Groom Speech is final: The groom has now heard many stories and has his time to respond to the best man’s Speech

  • Thank the Father and Mother of the Bride for the toast and the welcome to the family
  • Thank his Father and Mother for the toast and aceptance of the Bride to the family
  • Thank the guests for attending
  • Thank the bridal party and his Best Man
  • Compliment and praise his new bride and maybe share a small story
  • Thank and raise a glass to the bridesmaids

Such a wonderful moment in time..traditions.

But, not all weddings are traditional, in the modern wedding speeches are set in order generally of closeness to the couple.

Best friends will speak and stand in for family who may not be able to attend

Bridesmaids may come up together, the best man can also be the best woman and both the bride and groom will generally come to thank everyone for the love and generosity

Remember, this day is yours to enjoy!

Top Tips for Giving a Best Man’s Speech

  • Avoid in-jokes that most guests won’t understand!
  • Keep in clean – you don’t want to be dropping the F-bomb in front of your best friend’s grandma…
  • Pause for laughter
  • Now, before I start, the hotel manger has asked me to request that, for reasons of health and safety, none of you get up on top of the chairs and tables during my standing ovation.
  • Firstly I’d like to say I’m very nervous about making this speech. In fact this must be the third time today that I’ve stood up from a warm seat with pieces of paper in my hand.
